Michael Metalsky is an extremely talented, young emerging artist. He is currently a junior attending Central Bucks East High School. Michael excels at capturing and conveying deep emotion through his work. We asked Michael to draw the core image of Rose and Redwood, which is of a bench positioned along a path lined by redwood trees and rosebushes.
For this commissioned drawing, Michael chose pencil as his medium. “In this specific case [the drawing for Rose and Redwood], I wanted to take the reference and stay closely related in order to fully capture the scene of nature. Nature has the ability to capture serious themes and emotions all whilst being calming to the eye.”
As an artist, Michael says, “I am interested in taking what we know and exaggerating it, whether that is a beauty standard or the environment we interact with. My art deals with gender conformity and how we see everyday objects. As an artist, I try to push myself further and try to truly have fun while expressing myself.”
Michael is an artistic soul with the capacity to change how we look at the world.
“Art is my passion and I want to do it for the rest of my life,” he concludes.
Michael plans on going to art school after graduation from high school. We plan to follow his career closely.
Stay tuned for information on how to support Michael and Rose and Redwood through the purchase of notecards. We will be introducing prints of this drawing for sale shortly.
