Courage

Courage

I don’t see many people talking about this: how much courage it takes to live life.

Yet it’s something I am complimented on over and over again. I live life with a diagnosis of (and treatment for) stage 4 cancer, while building a business and raising kids.

Yesterday I had to face down the terror of blood tests and scans to tell me data about cancer.

Today I’m meeting with a potential partner where I may be able to expand my leadership programs for elementary school kids. Also scary – because the fears come – will I ask the right questions / will I say the right thing etc etc.

Life gets scary until…I compartmentalize. I pray. I surrender fears. I do tapping. I breathe slowly. I spend time in nature. I laugh. I focus on the moment. Lots of ‘I’ statements there – but this isn’t something I do alone.

And that’s the biggest key to courage – to believe I am supported, worthy and loved.

Courage is one of the words illustrated by Evgenija Burchak in the cards currently available in our shop. I love her definition:

Courage: Going through darkness without doubt.

-Evgenija Burchak

Courage is about being able to take a step when you don’t know the outcome. Unknowns are often scary. When I brush away doubts, I have the courage to walk forward despite not knowing exactly what I’m headed into.

For me, the second key to courage is a component of faith: I trust that there is a way, even if I can’t see it, and that somehow, some way, things will work together for the highest good. This belief sweeps away the doubts and fears, so my light can shine brighter and help illuminate the path.

Acknowledging the fear, letting go and clearing space for love and truth – it allows me to be courageous.
