What could you do in one minute that would improve your well-being?
Spend a minute without toxic thoughts.
Practice the art of self-kindness – which includes speaking to yourself with positive words.
Rather than focusing on what you lack, what you could have done better, where you slipped up, what you did “wrong,” how you are not good enough or don’t deserve something, you shift your focus to being kind to yourself.
Rather than indulging in imaginary conversations with people who hurt you, or spend time ruminating on the things you wish were different or better in your life, you spend a minute being kind to yourself.
Here’s what self-kindness looks like:
I’m really proud of myself today. I gave myself time to …. [stretch, meditate, giggle]. I appreciated the experience of …. and I’m so glad I did that. I paused to receive… and it felt good. I gave … and it felt good. I was brave when I … and I’m proud of myself for taking a risk. I am blessed. I love who I am and who I am becoming.
Self-kindness makes you feel better.
Improved well-being in one minute a day? Put it on your calendar: 9:09 is Nurture Time!
At Rose and Redwood, we call this practice of self-kindness “nurture time.” How does it work? You spend a minute speaking to yourself with kindness. Pretty simple, huh? You can use the example given above – or listen to the Nurture Time posts on this blog.
Give yourself the gift of nurture time. Spend one minute a day (we do it at 9:09 because it rhymes and, well, why not?) in the practice of self-kindness!
